Introduction

Your own little house in the centre of the city

This is our hotel. vondice hotel is a historical heritage site, a former pumping station, mostly created from natural materials, recycled and handmade. 21 meters long and furnished with love makes it one of a kind.
Today this is where you’ll come to expect luxuries like a king-sized bed (200×200 cm) with super deluxe mattress, a sunny first-floor balcony with views over the river and a private terrace. The centre of Amsterdam you’ll reach within 15-minutes. A bakery and supermarket you’ll find in in a 2 minute-walk.
Because we have built with the unusual shape of the little house, you will find two more beds (180×60 cm) for adventurous children under the stairs.

Twee Gemalen Silo's

A turbulent history

This building was once a sludge return pumping station, which formed a part of the Amsterdam East water purification plant that covered the island. Working together with the three silos that tower above the houses a little further on, the last phase of the water purification process took place beneath this small building. Clean water was then pumped from the pumping station on to the canal on the west side of the island.

The water treatment plant, built in the 1970s, was then dismantled in 2006 because of the city’s greater need for housing. The two remaining pumping stations we see today were designed almost identically. The first, which is across the street is now the coffee house De Espressofabriek. In 2018 our team began the second reconstruction to form the vondice hotel, which opened in January 2021.

For Amsterdam’s museums, places of beauty, and famous canals, you should carefully check your travel guide; there’s simply too many places to mention and you really don’t want to miss out. For example, with Nieuwmarkt as a starting destination, you can sit and watch the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam passing you by. This neighbourhood is also famous for Chinese restaurants such as the Nam Kee. With bikes available from the hotel, or a five-minute walk to the tram, you can easily reach places such as the following.
